ATTENTION BALMAIN ARMY: Balmain has just released a collaboration with Beats By Dre featuring two styles of music-wear: Powerbeats3 Wireless Earphones and Beats Studio Wireless Over-Ear Headphones. Both styles come in the color variations of Safari and Khaki and include the Balmain insignia. However, the bigger part of this campaign is the face- Kylie Jenner. This is particularly interesting because although the Kardashian/Jenner family participates with Balmain frequently, they picked Kylie. This was a poor choice out of everyone in the Kardashian clan. Although Kylie is extremely popular, she has a young following, which the majority of, have very little money. Picking a person like Kim would have targeted a larger audience because her fans encompass a bigger age range. A simple, but obvious mistake. Will this choice hurt the success of this campaign? I would say it won’t because most people will be buying the limited edition headphones simply because it’s Balmain. For example, the Studio headphones in the color safari have already sold out on Apple’s website. However, the bigger picture is that this collaboration is a sign of Balmain’s success- being able to access other markets. Creative Director Olivier Rousteing has definitely revived the brand, and personally, I am very happy about it.
